[Reflection] Remember When

Remember when your dreams were big, but your house was small?  Your body was brimming with energy, but there wasn’t enough room to move.

Remember the words, “If only… then I could…”? Your current circumstance is so full of limitations, that you’re so impatient to break free- break free from college, from grades, from your family, from unemployment. Oh, the future was a clean blank canvas, and so at present, your heart was afloat in the clouds. You can barely keep yourself contained, because like molecules in heat, you’re just bursting to expand and explore the world.

And now, you’ve grown. Welcome to adulthood. You are a crooked portrait of your youth’s aspirations. Are you proud? Are you grateful?

Or is your everyday an endless stream of complaints from the moment you wake up until you set the alarm for the next dreaded day?

Whatever happened to looking forward to tomorrow?
Whatever happened to “I’d give my best, just let me graduate.”
“I’ll want nothing more if you just give me this job.”

Where is the desperation? Where is the fulfilment?
Where is the sense of purpose? Of service and contentment?

Everyday, you ask for something new-
that you forget to be grateful for what you have now.
What you have now, that only yesterday, you were oh, so desperate for.

The cycle of
I want it
I have it
I don’t need it
I want something else
I want something more

When will it end?
When will you be satisfied?

Remember the time when you were only dreaming of what you already have now?
Remember it.
See it in front of you.
It’s no longer a dream.
Savor it.

You’ll never know when it will be gone.
