[Rumination] Quarantine

I wake up, I eat, I watch, I read, I sleep, I eat, I watch, I read, I bathe, I sleep.

Finally, I write.

WEEK 1

At the beginning of the quarantine, I was almost on the brink of having a panic attack because I was worried about all the bills and expenses I had to pay after one month of almost no income coming in. I work in a no work no pay field, and I am the only one who is employed in our family. We can get by for another month, but what if the quarantine gets extended for another month? And another?

WEEK 2

After a week, I stopped worrying. Some semblance of hope was seen when our company thought of a work from home arrangement (although it will never amount to even half of what we usually get, but at least). Also, I took comfort from the fact that almost everyone is in the same situation, so I had hope that the government, the citizens, human kind will find a way to make it work somehow. That in the end, we belong to the same species fighting against a single pandemic.

WEEK 3

My morale has slowly been going under. I started hibernating and stopped talking to people. It’s actually a common cycle for me. But reading stories about how lives are lost because we are not prepared is so heartbreaking. All the more when you realize that this has been going on for a LONG TIME. But this pandemic is just slapping it in our faces how seriously lacking we are- in discipline, organization, compassion, and unity. It makes me sadder, yet again, whenever I wonder whether this situation, will make us strive to be better prepared for next time, or whether, as we have proven time and again, we humans will just take everything for granted and live our selfish lives as if nothing happened.

And so as this week progresses, I will continue to reflect and try to find the good. Because I know there are- good people, good deeds, good hearts. But they are just being overshadowed by the media’s constant favouritism towards reporting the bad.

Capitalism and social norms are destroying us all.

Anyways, stay healthy everyone. Stay at home. Wash your hands. Educate yourselves. Stop spreading fake news.
