They say “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”, “Progress takes time. Progress takes effort.” These days though, I find myself complaining again and again about not having enough time in a day to build the habits and skills that I want to. But who am I going to fight about it? Does the universe have a customer support service where I can call and complain: “This is inhumane, 24 hours is not enough; give us more time!” I don’t think so.
Ergo, all I’m left to do is to examine my routines, pack some boxes of unused and forgotten endeavors and get on with the actual things that I can use everyday. This will require a huge amount of prioritising though. The thing about me, I love to love things. I am not yet a hoarder, just a typical millenial with a lot more interest than I know what to do with. Honestly, it feels daunting. It’s like deciding to empty my email inbox by reading each mail one by one, identifying which ones are worth the carbon emission and which ones I can delete and forever leave into the ether.
I blame Youtube. I blame social media. I blame my talented brain that can pick up new skills fairly quickly (but has no patience to persist and pursue). I blame my poor frustration tolerance that quits when a project requires a bit more time to complete. I blame my poor attention span that runs like a dog towards all things new and sparkly.
So on my way to build Rome, I will strive for 3 things:
- Do not buy ANYTHING if you have no space for it at home.
I was convincing my fiancè to buy more Ivar - Donate items that have not been used for 2 years.
- Write everyday.
And what do I want to achieve with this, you ask? For me, building my Roman empire means having enough financial freedom that I can go back to enjoying as much hobbies as I want without worrying about money. Ha! Just full circle, really! ♡
